Tripadvisor Reveals New European Emerging Hotspots
    LONDON, September 20, 2010 /PRNewswire/ --
    - From Lacock to Lancaster and Limerick
TripAdvisor(R), the world's largest travel site*, today reveals its list of the Top 10 fastest growing, up-and-coming hot spots, based on TripAdvisor.co.uk site data monitoring traffic uplift over the past year.
You may love Bath, Barcelona and Berlin but if you're looking for the new 2011 weekend break destination look no further than Lacock in Wiltshire. This charming rural village may not be as well-known as its Cotswold neighbours, but this all looks set to change as interest in Lacock on TripAdvisor UK has increased more than any other European destination over the past 12 months.
    Largest Lift for Lacock
Lacock's beautiful abbey has been a local point of interest for centuries but the use of the village as a film set over the last few years may partly explain its significant soar in popularity. In recent years period dramas such as Pride and Prejudice, Moll Flanders and Emma have taken advantage of Lacock's charming setting, and even some scenes from the Harry Potter films have been shot there.

Top 10 European Emerging Hotspots (based on UK site data)

    1. Lacock, Wiltshire
    2. Portreath, Cornwall
    3. East Kilbride, Scotland
    4. Tarporley, Cheshire
    5. Colchester, Essex
    6. Ripon, North Yorkshire
    7. Lancaster, Lancashire
    8. Limerick, Ireland
    9. Doncaster, South Yorkshire
    10. Dawlish, Devon

ya id like to see how it made the list, id say thomond park had a lot to do with it, although i suppose with Limerick what you see is what you get, no fake tourist shops and touristy areas, just a city with fun things to offer, after all, it did get european sporting capital for 2010!

The princess royal knocked up the list and handed it to them. It's a list of places where she had the craic.

Where are you getting cities from?

Tarporley is a village a bit smaller than Adare but without the nice scenary. Lacock is even smaller than the likes of Croom

Ripon is a small town, and Doncaster is a dump.

Lancaster would be closing in on the size of Limerick alright, maybe coming to 3/4 the size of Limerick.

A lot of those places I would know from growing up in Liverpool and having spent my child/teen/adult years going through places like them on the way to watch away games.

One thing that a few of the larger places on that list have in common is that they are towns that have or had big regeneration plans, and in the case of Limerick at least, have things listed as attractions that don't actually exist.

An example of this is if you go into a travel agent in the UK, well in my case if you go into one when you are back in Liverpool :), and get info on going to Limerick, the Opera centre is listed as a current attraction for shoppers, and the Coonagh shopping centre gets listed as a centre with a wide range of shops.

Mind you the flip side is that if the list causes some extra business for Limerick and the region, then that is a welcome event.

If it were a list of places that I have wandered to talking crap, then it is far far too short a list.:D You should see my hubcap collection though. ;)

The only place where me talking crap does not stand out is here in Dooradoyle. Seems there is some guy living in the area that talks even more crap than I do, and soils his pants in public. :p
