    Hi All,

I'm due to get married up in Monaghan in a months time. There are a number of golfers in the group heading up and I'd like to organise a round on a decent course in that area.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for courses in the area, maybe within a max of 20-30 minutes drive from Monaghan town?

    Thanks!

Rossmore GC (my club) just a couple of minutes outside of Monaghan town, or Concra Wood in Castleblayney would be your best bets. Concra not easy to get out on at weekends and is an excellent but very tough track, depending on handicaps in your group it may not suit all.
Rossmore is shorter but probably more playable for regular golfers and has been in fantastic shape all year, greens have been excellent, given the time of year you are coming up it should still be in good nick - be warned both couses are quite hilly (esp. 14, 15 and 16 at Rossmore), and Concra has a few long walk between tees, so a buggy would certainly not go astray.
Also Clones is about 20 mins away, haven't played there in about 2 years so can't really comment on condition, but it can be quite damp on extended 9 holes from my experience.

Ahem...will have to see if I can get permission :o

Thanks for all the tips, it'll be a mixed bunch, maybe 1 or 2 single digit guys but most would probably be in the 18-28 area so Concra might be a bit much for some people. I've only heard great things about it.

I'm a member there 2yrs , they've put a lot of work into the whole set up , new driving range with auto loading tee's , new chipping area , new putting green ( thats the 2nd one they have now ) . A pro shop , A professional of course , The course itself is a great test for any golfer , some cracking holes , the club is ran by great people that run it for the love of golf and not cash ,

The course holds up very well in the winter .there were some slight fog delays but course was always open by 9/10am .

Its well worth a visit to play , and it's an absolute steal at 400 yoyo's .

I have played here a few times, nice course with a lot of different style holes... The €400 would be money well spent imo!

I only played this Mannan in a match, junior foursomes. We played them at home first then away so we met the ladies on 1st leg, at practice round, they were there to make sure everything was ok and again on match day.

I cannot speak for the mens section but if the ladies are anything to go by they couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly and were incredible hosts. I really enjoyed the course both times I played, it was early in the year, 1st round, and course had held up better after the winter than some of the north Dublin parkland courses we had also played.

    Must go back!

Space Coyote, Concra really is the one to play if you are looking for a special day out. For the serious golfer it is a great test and has some spectacular holes, though the occasional golfer might find it a bit too punishing and not enjoy the experience that much, especially if the wind is blowing.

Rossmore is closest to you and is OK though nothing special but might suit a mixed group better than Concra.
Nuremore is nice in the summer, less so in the winter where it can suffer.
Mannan Castle is short and tight but usually in nice condition (a good 'members' club I would say and that deal looks very attractive).
Clones is OK, but not as good as Nuremore, Mannan, or Rossmore.

A bit further away are Slieve Russell - very nice, and Farnham Estate - newish and I havent played it but decent reports.

Still, Concra is the gem in that neck of the woods.
