    Hi

i see from google maps there are plenty of parks are they all good for running? and is there any site where i could find some running routes in and around limerick city. Oh and would be great if there was a sailing/kayaking club around limerick to
    thanks in advance

Castletroy is a really nice area......
Its near UL so there is a gym there and 50m pool on campus and plenty of running tracks around the area. There is an ok bus service into town aswel.
I know there is definatley a rowing club in UL but i'm not sure if it is only open to students or if normal members of the public can join.
Only disadvantage is that there is a lot of students living in the area.
    hope that helps a bit

UL also has a kayaking club which is open to the public just like the rowing club but you will have to pay a yearly membership fee unlike Students who can join for free.

Yes Castletroy - I agree with everything in the 1st reply. The gym in UL is very well equipped.

The city centre is not good for parks or for running routes generally. The best that I'm aware of is definitely the Lough Derg Way, which goes along the river/canal between UL and the city centre. It's a very nice walk/run/cycle.

+1 on castletroy - the closer you get to monaleen, the fewer students there are.

    HI Stratus,

First off I like your style of runners, I ran 2 marathons in asics stratus:D

If you check mapmyrun you can find lots of routes to run in Limerick. Your not too far from clareglens, keeper hill, Woodcock hill, killaloo, which have great trails to run on.

Also if you go over to ARTs forum http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=972 there are others who can help you out with the running.

op there are plenty of different running areas around the city, what i would suggest would be to move in somewhere (id suggest castletroy or dooradoyle) and try and find gyms and running routes from there are there would be plenty in these areas

Thanks to every one for there input i guess all i have to do now is narrow it down from castletroy or dooradoyle.
may have to go up for a look see at the weekend, its seems that Limerick City has it all, LOoking forward to the new routes!!

(Somebody was doing there home work ??)Curious baza1976
where you found out about the asics on a side not haven't done much running of late was going for the cork marathon but hit a bump in the road (knee trouble) So maybe the roads in limerick will be kinder to me lol

Again thanks every body for the great replies one thing less to worry about :D

Corbally may also be another option. Grove island gym is based there with a swimming pool and it is at the end of the (or the start) of the canal run along plassey out to UL. It is also only a 10 minute walk to the city centre which places you a lot closer to everything.

LOL not much detective work. When I saw your user name I recognised that it is the same name as my Asics stratus, which I used to use for running. I still use them for walking around in, but they are just too worn for running. I've done the Cork marathon, back in 09. When you move in you'll have time to train for the Limerick marathon in May.

Where will you be working? No point in living Castletroy side if you'll be working in Raheen or Dooradoyle side of town....UL gym is good but parking is a pain in the ass...

Oh and Limerick Canoe club is good if you aren't a student, trips every sat morning and nice bunch...
