White Coffee

    Is it me, or do white coffees not exist anymore? From my experience having worked in various cafes in the past, a white coffee is NOT a latte, its a mug or filter coffee with got milk. I realise filter coffee is rare there days amid the espresso variations but if your average barista knew what they were doing op had been given any training then instead of serving you a latte they could at least tell you they didnt do white coffee and offer you a latte! Just annoyed lately at baristas who through no fault of their own, are untrained or just dont care enough. Rant over, for now!

    Was at the market at the O2 yesterday & was very suprised to find a stall selling filter coffee made with a V60.

    Thats becoming all the rage now. I have a few customers using something similar, mainly home made mind you.

    IIRC a white coffee the milk is just heated, not steamed.

    Its with heated milk, but using perculated coffee not espresso. They used to do a delicious mug of white coffee in Bewleys when they were up and running years ago. Im not that old so its not that long ago but just wondered where all the perculators had gone or has the world been taken over by espresso machines! Must check out the O2 market. :)

    I thought that was "Café au lait". I always understood "white coffee" as just being a black coffee that you add your own milk to, or the barista adds room temperature milk to.

    My understanding is a white coffee is an Americano with a bit of hot milk added on top. In other words, about 75% hot water + coffee, and about 25% hot milk.
