I have recently been given a Junior Cert class for Religion and it is my first year teaching religion. They do not have to sit the Junior Cert exam and I am looking for any film ideas people might have that would be suitable for a JC class

I am doing some aspects of the course with them but was hoping to get a dvd to back topics up. I just want to stress that I will not just be showing them dvds for the year - it will only be as a resource...

I think this would probably get more of a response if it was in the Teaching section.

We did a movie in 2nd year, I think it was called Changing Lanes? Fantastic movie! Brings up topics like decision making and how they affect our path in life, morality, greed and money and a few more. Great for a religion class, can lead to good discussions about decision making i.e what path would you take in "said" situation. :)

Might be more interesting to throw a hot button issue up on the board and talk about it, you're not going to get much that will be 12s rated. We watched Chocolat, but its kind of crap. The JC religion course is painfully boring, don't do it unless you have to.

we watched blood diamonds . . definetly provoked a thought and the whole class were drawn into it :) We had plenty of discussions afterwards on morality etc.. I would highly recommend it :) .........................
As part of my religion course for the jc the main bit i enjoyed was when the teacher put a topic on the board in like a spider diagram and we had a class dusscussion about it. Her only rule was that everyone had to respect everyone elses opinion . .topics included morality, bullying, abortion, racism, discrimination, 3rd world - how we should be helping.Because they were interesting topics and some debatable everyone got involved and participated :)

If you are tteqching about the reformation, this documentary is perfect. I believe it is freely available in it's entirety on YouTube. "Martin Luther - Reluctant Revolutionary".
