How to get the engagement ring size without her knowing

Hi,

Just looking for some suggestions as to how to get the ring size of my girlfriend without her knowing? I have been told things like the shoe size should roughly be the same size. Have also been told to take one of her other rings as they should be about the same but they won't be exact will they?

Any help would be greatly appreciated?

Can you measure it while she is asleep maybe? All you need is a piece of string.

However, has she specifically told you that she wants you to pick out the ring? If she hasn't then don't go out and buy it yourself without her input. You could most likely pick out something she doesn't like but feels too embarrassed to say she doesn't like it ....

I bought my fiancees ring based on the size of rings she already had. It was still wrong though. The truth is, it didn't really matter. It didn't take away from the moment, and she loved the ring I got her, but then I knew very well what type of ring she liked. A ring size is easily adjusted. Having said that, obviously it would be preferable to get one that fits first time.

I am sure her best friend would probably be able to tell you her ring size, or find out for you in a cunning manner....

There's the string method, whereby you put a little bit of string around her finger while she's asleep and then bring that to the jeweler. You could also use one of her own rings as a guide. Either way, you might be out a slight bit, so when you're buying the ring, ask about whether or not it can be sized. Some rings can't be sized very much or even at all (my own ring could be taken down a half size at the max because it has diamonds in the shoulders).

I sussed my GF's ring size by her trying out other friends rings when we were out and then I just it asked them. Bit lucky obviously but worked out well

I will try the string method but she is a very light sleeper so she will probably wake up.

She has picked the ring and pointed it out to me. Shown it to me on the website and everything. If I could give her the money and get her to get it, I would. But apparently, that is not how it's meant to be done....

If she's shown you the ring and picked it out then why can't you just ask her the ring size?

That's what my oh did... he bought my favourite beers, got me drunk and then got up early the next morning taking one of my rings to be sized and told me he'd left something in work. It was a sneaky operation indeed but he knew I wouldn't be moving for a couple of hours.
