Samsung Q330 or HP DM4 or ???

I'm currently looking for a budget ultraportable. Mainly used for general internet use/ watching dvds/ word processing etc. Will also need to be able to run engineering software and be able to cope with basic CAD work (nothing too intensive like 3d rendering). Must also have a DVD-RW drive.

I'm sick of lugging around a prehistoric Inspiron 6400 so want something a little more compact and slim.

Was all set to buy a Samsung Q330 as I felt it ticked all the boxes but then spotted a DM4 which although it has a 14" screen is very similar in size due to it's slim screen bezel and weight to the Q330 and seems to be better in the following areas:

    Processor: i5-430M v i3-350M
    Screen: 14" v 13.3"
    OS: 64bit W7 v 32bit W7
    HD: 7200rpm v 5400rpm

I'm aware neither have graphics cards but I won't be doing any gaming/ 3d rendering so don't think I'll need one.

What do people think? I know the HP seems the better laptop but haven't heard great things about their reliability. I'm also open to any alternatives suggestions.

Acer Timeline X 4820TG is hard to ignore in this price range.

    http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Timeline_X_4820TG_Core_i5-450M_Laptop_with_12_Hour_Battery_LX.PSG02.165/version.asp

Has similar specs to the HP but with the HD 5470 for light gaming and very suitable for light GPU work found in CAD, photoshop etc. Also has switchable graphics to save battery life.
Weighs less, has better form factor, looks great and has exceptional battery life (~8hours)
Lacks e-sata is its biggest negative though.

Available in Currys so id make sure to go down and try it out.

    Thanks for that,

I won't be buying from laptopsdirect so that machine is about €200 more expensive and out of my budget. If I was looking at that I'd have to be considering an Envy 14.

I had considered it previously but from reading reviews it appears that its build quality and its keyboard leave a lot to be desired and the automatic graphics switching hasn't really been thought through properly.

What would you choose between the Samsung and HP?
