Am I eligible for a J1 Visa

    I was a student uPrepare presentation unitl June when my course ended.
    Now I'm working full time but on a work placement.

    I want to go to america for a year to work. Am I eligible or how do I go about it?

    Nope afraid not, Sure a J1 is only for a number of Months anyway (?) even if you qualify for it.

    What kind of course was it? If it was for a Bachelor degree then you qualify, as long as your intended arrival date to the US is at within 1 year from your graduation. If your course was for a higher certificate or anything less, you have to show that you are currently in the process of working towards a degree in some way (college acceptance letter etc).

    There are two J-1 visas, the 5 month (summer) and the 1 year one. The 1 year one has three separate categories, I guess they're called:
    Internship visa
    Training visa
    IWT visa

    For both internship and training you require a job before you go out there but not for the IWT. Also, the training visa can be taken up if you don't have a degree but instead have 5 years of work experience in your field (I'm quite sure it's 5).
