The S9 is the best sounding MP3 player currently available. If this is important to you, the S9 or its successor, the J3, are the ones to get.

If sound quality isn't important to you, then you have lots of worse sounding options that might be a better fit.

I have one of these and it is fantastic. Definite bargain. It plays divx and xvid files so no need to convert and the AMOLED screen is just beautiful. It is brilliant for plane journeys as you can load it full of movies and tv shows.

Menu can be a little fiddly but you soon get used to it. Decent radio too.

People have already mentioned the positives (I was almost ready to buy one) but it lacks a memory expansion slot and I can't justify the cost of this over the 8GB Sansa Clip+, which also gets great reviews.

I only want it for audio so the video features are lost on me and the extra weight makes it slightly less attractive in a gym environment.

Ive been on the lookout for a replacement for my recently deceased 60GB IPod 5th Gen ... have read good reviews about the Cowon players ... also contemplated the Sansa Fuze 8GB in Dunnes for €44.50 , and the Zune 32GB $239 (Im going to Florida at the end of Oct) ... but on Fri I noticed that Tesco have the 120GB IPod Classic for €167.50  ... that much storage for that price is unbeatable ... it even beats the best price in the US !!

Fiddly interface, but the audio and the picture quality are awesome. 119 europeans is a steal for this baby.

Are the earphones any use? I know Cowon do make some good ones.

Also comes with a lithium polymer battery, these last years longer than the lithium ion ones that apple put in the ipods. I see some phones have lithium polymer too now.

I used the S9 ear phones on my desktop in work for a year and a bit, they only fell apart last week. TBH buying a player like that without buying a good set of earphones as well is a waste

May see a few higher-capacity versions of these on the cheap in coming months. They've basically been replaced by the J3, which is similar but with an expansion slot.

Have you not put on Claw's replacement interface?

The playlist function is very handy, and nice to have different wallpapers for different screens.

Yep I have the claw UI it's an improvement but aspects of the underlying music controls still do my head in... I don't actually carry my S9 around much these days, the phone does the job for short journeys
