Hi, not sure if this is the place for such a query but any advice would be appreciated.
I'm a fairly accomplished window painter; it tends of course to be seasonal (Christmas being the biggest time) but I have a feeling I have been undercharging.
Does anybody know how much a large-ish pub or shop would normally pay for a good quality window painting? Thanks for your time

I would check out the going day rate for a tradesman then I would double it and add the price of materials :)

Thanks, Handyman. What kind of tradesman are you talking about? Plumbers, carpenters and the like?

your work could have a big impact on how well the shop trades, your more or less advertising the store/bar/restaurant to the public..dont be afraid to charge, god knows they wont be.

A pub I use occasionally had the windows painted to stop people firing the odd shot at people drinking inside and I must say it looks from the outside like a bookies rather than a public house so it doesn’t exactly draw drinkers in,
But I like it that way :) even though the gaffer don’t, it looks well done in a stain glass/leaded window effect but it missed out on showing the premises as a public house rather than a bookies,
I see you say your going to have to charge more for your work and I think you may be right but at the same time I would be looking toward the long term effect of over pricing

You have a skill that people need and its no different than what I do myself “ I do what needs doing” so the way I look at it is… set yourself a day rate that your happy with - you will know if your rate is over the odds by the amount of work that flows into you,

Personally I just like to keep busy and have had the same clients come back to me over and over again this is more important to you/me than making a killing off of one job,

While I know your type of work may differ from what I do - it boils down to the same thing “client satisfaction,

One chap I do a lot of work for works as a manager in a bank and one day asked me if I had ever thought of just sticking to one of the things I do… I said no way..

He said “in that case what do you enjoy working at most” I said getting a good result and told him I just love to see the finished job,

Recession my ass.. You do a good job and you will never be idle
Best of luck to you man
