I don't think there's much point in locking your bag to be honest. The only way you'll get peace of mind is by having nothing of value in there in the first place. If anyone had nicked my bag they would have got nothing but some smelly clothes and a selection of toiletries.

I googled "pacsafe" and it appears to be a brand rather than one specific product so I'm not sure what you have in mind. Maybe take a look here for it? http://www.jackson-sports.com/Brands.aspx?BrandID=75&gclid=CLSex72RlKQCFYiX2AodGHpxJA

As mentioned above Pacsafe is a brand, but is this what you're referring to?:

The Great Outdoors on Chatham St is probably your best bet for a shop that stocks it but I would agree that the best thing you can do is put all your valuables in a daypack and carry it with you wherever you go. Such an elaborate lock may even attract more attention and it'd still be just as easy to slash the bag itself.

For peace of mind bring as few valuables as you can and use safes in accommodation where available.

For security use a TSA lock on your rucksack if you're travelling through the states. (it's a lock that can be opened with a master key by US authorities)

To be honest, the best protection is a crappy-looking old bag. No-one will open it :)

I have an old canvas bag I travel with, I did west Africa with it. At one point, it got thrown off a bus into the wrong village, and it took me a whole day to get back to it, and nobody had opened it

cheers all for the gd points ,
and yes i was thinking in my mind something like - http://www.pacsafe.com/www/index.php?_room=3&_action=detail&id=48

tho in my mind im not thinking about stoping someone from taking something but just stoping someone put something into my rucksack!

It really comes down to personal choice but I would never be bothered with something like that. As others have said, I would advise that you take few valuable items with you and keep them on your person where possible. I think the chances of someone actually trying to put stuff in your bag are pretty remote and not worth the hassle of messing with that wire mesh.

+1 that it's not worth it.
Extra weight that you don't need that has the same effect as sticking a "rob-me" sign on your back.

Yeah I have one of those PacSafe-like locks/chain which I bought a few years ago. I did'nt use it once in 18 Months on the move.

As someone mentioned before It's all about not bringing anything of too much value-Its also not worth bringing if yer gonna worry about it:D
