PSOne Technical Issue

    Hi Guys

Got myself a smaller PSOne online for cheap, the version released in 2000, to play some old PSOne Games I recently purchased from a charity store. Just to check, as a forewarning, is there any games that this console can't support that the original PS1 could? I've heard stories that the smaller version has trouble supporting the entire PSX catalogue but just wanted to make sure.

Also, what kind of games on PS1 can people recommend for me to get?

I was a die hard supporter of this console first time round, so other then the likes of Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy and Alien Trilogy - most of which I have - what would you recommend as an often "hidden classic" on a format brimming with excellent games?

Why would you need a PS1.
Why didn't you just play your PS1 games on your PS3.
    I'm assuming you haven't sold your PS3.

    I sense a facepalm moment coming on!:p

I would say Castlevania SotN, but god knows how much that goes for these days!!!

Never had a PSOne. Considered getting one and a friend even gave me a loan when he was away on holiday, but in the end, I couldn't justify the price and MGS4 was the only game I wanted to play. Perhaps when it comes down in price generally then I'll consider it but I'm happy with the XBox at the moment.

In that case, save yourself 90 quid and get SotN from XBLA!

Noting like Oldskool games on Oldskool consoles :)

I sometimes play PS1 games on my PS3 or PSP But I love LOVE the original controllers

I kept all of mine, didn't plan on playing them but only sold 2/3 with the PS1.

I have to say that I went out of my way to find a 2000 edition with a Dual Shock controller as a result of actually being really uncomfortable handling a non dual shock or bulky controller.

When you think about it, with every games console, the PSX was the last true bastion of the smaller controller - the Dreamcast, original X Box, Gamecube and even the Sega Saturn all had larger, bulky controllers which naturally navigated into Dual Shock and Vibration

If you can, get the analoge one (one with the dipped head on the sticks, no Dual shock)

The handles are longer and more confortable

Might be cheaper getting a copy of it from the US PSN store ;)
(unless he already has an Xbox and the like)

Do you have a PC or laptop? You can play most PSX games with an emulator these days for free
