RTE's ''Up For The Match'' could be so much better.

I know it was mentioned here in other places but i have to make a point by asking . . Shouldn't RTE be breaking its arse in an attempt to treat the nation's GAA-hungry audience? I don't agree with the inclusion of kids in the announcing of the teams. . .don't get me started on my discomfort in having to watch Des Cahill grinning stupidly like he's just let off a sneaky fart . . . .they didn't use Jimmy McGee to his maximum last night either. . They'd rather make Dermot Early endure a very emotional montage of clips of his dad. . I was half expecting them to zoom in to get a close-up of his eyes afterwards. . I hope he left and that's why they went for a commercial break. . . Lack of imagination and vision. . . You might laugh at this but even Paddy O' Gorman going around to pubs in the respective counties would've been more fitting than the awkward flirting between Grainne and the panel. . .it was an atrocious show and i expect to be back here ranting next year unless they hire some retired hurlers or footballers to man the ship and steer it into some entertaining waters. . .

I agree with Feeded... I think they are losing focus on what the thing should be... The songs at the start, kids reading out the names, and videos done by the girl's in their respective localities are not that interesting in my opinion. A lot of the program is opportunity wasted.

Des is great on the radio but always look like a rabbit in the headlights on TV. As for Seoiga she is so out of her depth doing sports stuff she thinks she is on the all Ireland talent crap.

It is a pure steryotipical Culchie fest shockingly bad I was hiding behind the couch watching in shame its like a GAA Version of the Office

yes! You're right. . The office. . . What perfect analogy. . . It's as if the production crew are a group of transition years on work experience

Agreed with all previous posts. last nites programme was awful & downright cringey. From des's woeful slagging of the old timers to Seoige's witch laugh, ive no problem with the show being light hearted or whatever but the presenters were just awful..

perhaps the TV show is now out-dated. Years and eon's ago getting to Dublin was a feat in itself that took months of planning. Now its a quick drive and home again.

Maybe something along the lines of the following:

split the show into 4 - 2 parts for each senior team and one section for the minors. The last section could look at the refs, linesmen, umpires, who organises the day etc..........

the first 3 sections could visit some of the clubs where these players come from - a snippit of training, facts, how they got to the final, behind -the-scene's etc..... A little bit of talking in the studio
The last section could introduce the officials and show some of the behind scenes that goes on to make the day - when the teams arrive, dressing-rooms, etc......
I wonder could they put a small camera onto the ref and an ear-piece and play that back from a previous match in Croke Park - so show the intensity and diffciulty the players and officials have.
More high-tech, more down-to-earth - visiting players homes - the human nature side of things.

The current format doesn't work - Grainne is great to look at but it'd be better if she was out in the field reporting. Des, back behind the radio mike.

I didnt see the football one but I saw the hurling one and it was cringe-worthy. An hour and a half show and they talked about the match for 5 mins. It was dreadful stuff - basically a show for 10 yr olds showing clips of schoolkids singing songs and playing games. There should be more analysis of the actual match rather than braindead childs play. I agree even if they showed clips interviewing people in towns from the respective counties would be a lot better. They seem to get the biggest rednecks out there and get them to sing an ol song.
