Is the Dunaras area safe?

Not sure whether to put this in the NUIG forum or the Galway city forum.
As the title says, is the area around Dunaras safe? I have heard bad things but would the the main road from Dun aras to NUIG be safe. Is it just some housing estates near by. I would be walking from the college at night.

What time is "night"? Are you male or female?

From what ive seen and heard of the place, it looks dodge. Not a place id like to live, or walk back to late at night. Id get a taxi if I were you. Tis a bit of a walk anyways,, especially at night time.

I used to lived up the rahoon road, I think I walked home a couple of times on my own. Never any hassle, but since then ive heard things (break ins, burnt out cars etc) and I guess id be more cautious now.

Dunaras is perfectly safe! As is the road from nuig to there, its far to busy. The housing estates around there are dodgy enough but as long as you stick to the road you should be fine as its a very busy road. And I think dunaras itself is protected by private gates with passwords??

I live in Dunaras and usually walk home, so far I've had no problems at all.
The area is not that dodgy, but you're better off sticking to the main road (Bishop O'Donnell) which is well lighted and there's some traffic all the time. Of course, the basic rules still apply:
- It's always better not to walk alone.
- Stick to the main road.
- Try not getting home too late. I wouldn't bet on the same safety past midnight.
- If you're a girl, watch out anyways. If you're unsure, take a taxi.

A good thing is that Dunaras is really full of people and you can probably find someone to walk home with.

I'm a guy. Yeah that's what I was thinking. I don't know Galway too well so I don't want to be wandering around a rough area. Talking about 9/10 o'clock.:D Dunaras village itself seems very safe but I haven't been here long and haven't really wandered around at night.

9/10 o clock you will be sound. You just get groups of little knackers pissing about on their bikes, shouldn't cause you much hassle. In fact you're more likely to get grief off the gob****es in and around Supermacs at 3am.
