Alternative to Acer TimelineX 4820TG

I was half thinking of upgrading the laptop and after a few weeks of nosing about on the web I kinda had my heart set on the Acer TimelineX 4820TG.

    But.....
It seems that the 4820TG has one major flaw. The only way to get data in and out of it is via USB2.0. There is no USB3.0, no firewire, no eSATA port and not even an expresscard slot. So unfortunately for me, this is a deal breaker.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend me a spec that is as near as can be to the 4820TG but with some sort of decent I/O option (USB3.0 or eSATA or upgrade slot)

    I am after the following

    Top spec Core i5
    Dedicated graphics
    4GB
    any HDD
    14-15"
True HD (would dearly like 1080 if possible)
Very decent WiFi spec (or at least, wifi upgradeable vis mini PCIe card)
    HDMI port
eSATA port or USB 3.0 or both
    1Gb Ethernet

    Many thanks for any help

Are you sure one of those usb ports doesn't double up as an e-sata? The HP Envy range are available in a 14" (well it's actually a 14.5") and 15" and have the specs you're after. I'm considering getting the Envy 14 myself (this one to be more specific http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ie/en/ho/WF06a/321957-321957-3329744-3995710-3995710-4173527.html) although I can't really justify it as I already have a pretty decent laptop, still tempted though :). I've tried the touchpads on some of the newer HPs (not the envy but it looks the exact same) and it's very good. Not quite as good as the touchpads on the macbook pros but probably as close as I've seen any other manufacturer get.

    Hey T
    How's it going fella.

No, there is no eSata/USB port on the 4820TG. (mind you, I think you have one there in the shop, so vefiy for yourself)

Have you seen this thread re - the Envy?
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055935438

Seems the UK/Irish version ships with a significantly lesser screen. Why do they do this **** to us? I would have bought the Envy if it wasn't for this. Have a read, see what you think.

    Instead of the great HP Radiance Infinity LED Display (1600x900);
we get the crappy 14.5" (1366x768) diagonal High Definition HP BrightView Infinity LED Display.

Yeah I seen that thread before. I didn't look into it much as at the time I had no interest in getting a new laptop. I don't know if the screen difference would bother me that much. I imagine it will be similar to the screen I have in my current laptop (dell studio 1555) and I quite like this screen. In fact the higher res of the radiance could put me off it. I'm not a fan of really high resolutions on small screens. For example I seen a 15.6" laptop with a 1080p screen and I really didn't like it. Everything was too small. Saying that I doubt 1600x900 on a 14.5" would push it too much into the annoyingly small scale.

One thing I'd need is to be able to rip out the optical drive and replace it with a HDD. I can't go with out my SSD. :)
