Yo, just a quick question about the MMR. Does anyone know if mumps caused by the MMR vaccine is contagious? Cheers!

It's a valid question asthe old polio vaccine (drops)had the potential to cause poliobut the MMR does not cause mumps (nor measles or rubella)

There's a very specific answer to this question.

The docs on the forum can PM me if they want to know the answer. But of the OP feels their kid has vaccine associated mumps then they should get a medical opinion.

Yeah. The MMR vaccine commonly causes lumps to occur in the same distribution as mumps and people commonly feel their child has caught mumps from the vaccine. It is not as common as the rubella type rash but still pretty common.

It's myself actually, got the vaccine about 16 days ago and I've got the mumps now (swollen face, especially big parotid glands and a lovely dry mouth.) So just wondering if I should be avoiding people.

All anyone here can responsibly say to you is that you should see your doctor.
