Went for a consultation the other day for Braces which cost 100 euro. I Had to put a steel piece in my mouth to hold my lips up for them to take a photo of my top teeth, Felt sore and uncomfortable on my gums but was only in for a few mins so just thought the pain was normal. I now have too huge ulcers which I noticed the day after in the exact places that were sore from the metal piece. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal or down to bad hygiene in the dental practice?? Should I inform them to prevent this happening to future customers!

The ulceration more than likely resulted from overstretching of your mouth in those particular areas from the "cheek retractors" used for the photos (combination small mouth/large instrument), rather than poor hygiene (surgeries keep records&/printouts of their cross-infection-control measures on a day to day basis, even dentists themselves wouldn't handle anything that hasn't been sterilized, gloves or no gloves).

Dental instruments are sterilized like in a hospital. Very clean. Unlike say a knife and fork in a restaurant. It is more likely the pressure of the instrument caused a ulcer.
