In a 4 person scramble, what way is the handicap allowance calculated?

It varies from club to club.

Generally 1/6th for a 3 man, 1/8th for a 4 man. But I have noticed a lot of places doing 1/10th, I think more for convienence as it's easier to work out, as 1/10th definately favours the lower handicap players.
