About to start a build - have been recommened 215mm hollow with 80mm internal insulation. Does anyone know how this will compare with 100mm double leaf with 100 mm cavity?

Cost is an issue - do you know the difference in price (e.g. twice the price for double leaf?)?

Cavity wall construction consisting of 100mm Double leaf with 100mm cavity with 80mm insulation would IMO be far superior to 215mm hollow with 80mm internal insulkation.

This spec might be ok for a detached garage but you really need to talk to a professional, if this spec is to be used in a new house. Seek professional advice.

hollow block with drylining, while still technically allowed.... is a far inferior construction type to all others.

i wouldnt even build a garage with it.

refer to the acceptable details for how its to be done, but personally i would not even consider it as a build type. for example see how every internal block wall must be insulated to a distance of at least 1.0 m from an external wall..... !!!

Its littered with thermal bridges, it increases the risk of mould and fungal growth, its increases risk of timber rotting, its very hard to make airtight, and its very hard to properly detail elements such as rsjs etc
