Fair play to Gmac and Jimenez for playing the Austrian Open ,one of the smallest tournaments on the European Tour, this week. It gives these tournaments a true chance to promote themselves and I know money talks but it would be nice to see more top players supporting the kind of tournaments that got them where they are. Is it too much to ask for these top players to support these events or indeed any of the European Tour schedule. Apart from the WGCs and the majors and their local event/open they don't support any other events.

Totally agree, good to see GMAC playing well on lead up to Ryder Cup aswell, hopefully his good form will continue on the first weekend in October . Looks like a quality golf course to.

I see your point OP but they're using the tournament as a nice practice session before the Ryder cup. We wouldn't see gmac there if it was the week after. He took a while off and needs some competitive practice. Jiminez deserves the credit alright but he's in danger of burning himself out before the Ryder cup.

great prep for the ryder cup, don't think i'd be giving loads of credit,it's about timing, take gmac for eg he hasn't played in 3 or 4 weeks i think,so what about those tourneys he decided to ignore?this fits in nice to his ryder cup prep and you'll see him play in every tourney after the ryder cup, why?race to dubai, cash and that's all it boils down to,i do agree with ya that some players don't bother their bollixx but the likes of gmac don't deserve credit for turning up

maybe he is getting some cash to turn up?

Maybe if other Ryder cuppers showed there commitment to the European Tour like GMAC and Jimenez they wouldn't have had to rely on Monty for a pick. If McDowell wins tomorrow its his third win of the season, he deserves credit for that and playing a tournement he had a genuine chance of winning. And i said IF.

i can only guess you know very little about golf to make such a comment,G-Mac has only played in Europe 9 or 10 times this year(there's real commitment),he got into the team through the worlds points list,he said at the start of the year he may change around a couple of comps depending on how the RC qualification was going so he deserves a bit of praise for that, unlike Paul Casey who wasn't prepared to make any sacrifice to get into the team once he knew he was out of the auto spots

I wasn't refering to Paul Casey who sees himself as a PGA Tour player. If Harrington supported the European Tour a bit more he would have made automatic qualification like Gmac, i'm not looking for an argument. Just pisses me off that Irelands best golfer does not support the tour he learnt his trade on a bit more.

    fair enough,
i don't think you can apply the above logic though,if i was a pro golfer i'd love the opportunity to compete at the top level and in golf that's the u.s tour, look at the fed ex cup bonus of $10,huge money and the prize fund almost every week is higher, maybe the courses aren't as good but money talks, add to that the great weather over there it's a no brainer.
lets face it,the Ryder cup isn't what it used to be in the eyes of these players,i think for most of them it's a bonus if they make the team but they have more important goals to acheive.

Compared to the likes of other Ryder Cup players that is pretty high. Casey only has himself to blame for not being picked.

btw PH went to college with a few of my mates and they still keep in touch, have met him a few times and he's a gent, one thing you're forgetting is that as he lives in Dublin, do you not think from a family life perspective that it might be in his interest to play a bit in Europe, you're presuming he's doing it just to keep the tour happy, well done Paddy ,fair play, what a load of ....................
