Focus door won't open from inside

    Hi all

Anyone's Focus driver side door ever refused to open from the inside?

I've got a 2007 3 door Focus Titanium. I don't often lock it from the inside but today I did, and when I tried pulling the inside handle it wouldn't open - the actual opening part couldn't be pulled out fully, and the lock remained in the locked position. It's not actually locked though - there's about a millimetre of play in the lock, and when it's pulled out that little bit, the central locking unlocks the passenger side door. The only way of opening the driver's door is to wind down the window and pull the handle from the outside.

Now to complicate matters... a couple of months ago the driver's door was replaced - someone reversed into it leaving a nasty dent that couldn't be beaten out. The repair was done through a main Ford dealer with a new door shell ordered and the electrics moved from the old to the new.

Bearing this in mind, is it possible that the repair caused the problem? More importantly, would the Ford dealer be obligated to repair the lock at their own expense?

How did you lock it from the inside?
By pressing the button on you key, or by pushing the lock switch on the doors?

    Some mondeos are the same.

I locked it by pushing the lock switch on the door.

Also, I tried taking the key out of the ignition and used the buttons on that but had the same effect - the passenger side lock switch moved to "open" but the driver side one didn't move at all.

Just back from the dealer - apparently the lock could only have been damaged by the crash and not during repair as it's a sealed unit.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

I agree that accident damage was the cause here. Those cars are bulletproof.

Surely the Ford dealer should have replaced that then when they repaired the door?

Update - after that dealer wanted €200 to replace the whole lock unit, I took it to another main dealer. Turns out the cable between the handle and lock had detached. They opened up the door and reattached it and only charged for the labour: €55.

I know who I'll be doing business with in future...

    door cables can just wear.

Good to hear there was no accident damage to the door, and it was a cheap to sort it.
