I dont want actual legal advice just soem opinions on this matter.

What if some body had signed a contract with landlord to rent their house and had been given the keys and then the landlord pulled out at the last minute?

My Mother in law was looking to rent a certain house and the government were paying for half of the rent. She had met the landlord and she signed a contract but didnt get a copy there and then he said he would send her on a copy.
He gave her the keys and she had packed everything she had and had even moved a few items in. She was then told by the guy his daughter was coming back from the UK and he was letting her live in the house.
The thing is she had someone knock in as she had changed her insurance and the likes to the address she was meant to be moving into. So she had someone call round and there is a Latvian girl living there now.

Let me know what ya think tnx.

If someone has been given the keys the letting has commenced. Any ousting of the tenant after that must be in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act. An aggrieved tenant can complain to the PRTB.
