2010 Ford Focus - take the plunge?

    Hi all,
I have been saving hard for a new car recently (half cash, half loan) and I'd like to get a used (2008+) or new (2010) Ford Focus.

It seems that used Focus from 2008 are holding their value quite well and its hard to get one for under 16K (style or zetec).

At the moment, the dealers have new 2010 Focus 1.6 Style diesel in stock which are specced almost like a zetec. With a trade in, a Ford dealer offered me one for 18000 (17600 in non-metallic).

Given the fact that I am currently driving a petrol (more expensive), and that my road tax would be 250 cheaper per year, I'm probably going to save another 2.5k over a 5 year period. And surely it will maintain a good sell-on price.

Also, I don't like the 2011 Focus at all. Maybe I'm writing just to convince myself thats its a great deal, but something at the back of my mind is saying "it's too good to be trueeeeeee...theres a catch you can't see...run away!!!"

Anyone else considering this offer, or have already taken the plunge? Am I missing some snag?

If you dont like the new model then dont buy a 2010 car until the new model is well out. Current values will drop when the new model comes out..

I would have thought 16K (08/09) would get you a 2.0TDCi Titanium from the UK. Much nicer than the 1.6 with no DPF and fully loaded.

If you are looking for a decent sell on value then I wouldn't go buying a brand new current model. The new model is due in March/April so current models are going plunge in value once that is launched.

    Yeah, go for the 2.0tdci.

Im driving a 1.8TDCi Style Focus 5 door hatch at the moment and it is well speced except for one important piece of kit.

The Style does not have Air Con. It has alloys and front fogs but no frickin air con. Disaster to be honest.

    Rental car BTW.

Anyway the Zetec has more comfortable and sporty seats and air con as well and different alloys.

For me Zetec as a minimum spec.

The thing is though I wouldn't buy a Ford Focus if I were you. I'd buy a VW Golf Highline.

Actually If I had the option I would buy a VW Golf GTD but they are around €29k so thats out for you really if you are looking at Focus Styles.

Important thing to note as well is that the Ford Focus changed shape during 2008 so you have to make sure it is a 2008+ Ford Focus otherwise you will be caught out on resale.

The Focus 1.6 TDCi Style since early this year has air con, alloy wheels, front fog lights, bluetooth and heated front windscreen as standard.

Don't think the 1.8 TDCi is sold here anymore so not sure what year your one is Berty, next January's Euro VI emmission laws have killed it off anyway. Also the 1.6 TDCi sold in the Focus now is the 90bhp version which doesn't have a DPF afaik. Even the top spec Focus Titanium sold here only has the 90bhp version.

If you have any website that could show me a Titanium for that price, I'd definately consider it. Do you think that includes all costs associated with bringing the car into Ireland?

    .

Yeah thats right Baz, it's pretty much a Zetec in terms of spec with the exception of the centre console between the front seats. It also has the sports seats of the Zetec which are very comfy indeed.

The dealer said that this deal was only going on for another month or so...not sure if that was scaremongering as he said later that it could be December.

I'd be wary of anything with a DPF, LOTUS.

Given that garages are closing down left right and centre and the IMF will be coming to these shores soon I would forget about spending more on something because you believe it will hold its resale value.

I have a 2008 Focus Style 1.6 TDCi (110 bhp new model variant, registered in the UK, Dec 2008) and it has air-con among other things. Mine admittedly came with the sports pack fitted so I've got extras too.
