Ok heres the situation, I was away in england for my holidays and took my car with me, unfortunately while I was over there I parked my car in a car park and another driver drove in and scraped my front bumper and and tore my licence plate clean off, I was not present for the incident but when I arrive back at my car, 2 witnesses approached me saying they had seen the whole thing. Apparently the girl hit my car panicked drove down a lane, covered her plates with kitchen roll and drove back out through the car park speeding off past the witnesses. The witnesses had already took her reg plate before she hid it. I spent the afternoon in the police station where the police were able to tell me that the car registration was showing up as insured, the witnesses gave their statements, the third parties hub cap was ripped off during the incident so I gave that in as evidence to the police. The police called to the registered address but no sign of anyone in or the car. I'm now in the position of waiting for a full police investigation to complete. It may have not been an insured driver who was driving the other vehicle. I was just wondering if I should just cut my losses and get the car fixed myself or chase it up with the British authorities. Its about a 1000 quids worth of damage I reckon. Should my insurance company's solicitors chase it up with the UK police?

I would fix it from my own policy, and then when investigation is finished your insurance company should claim money back from the other driver (if he was insured) or from some office in UK which is dealing with accidents caused by uninsured drivers.

A €1000 for a number plate and to repair a scrape?
Wait and see what the police come back and say.
If the police are involved they will probably charge her for leaving the accident.

Don't think I want to risk losing my no claims bonus.... Might wait and see what the police come back with, they said it can take up to 6 months to complete an investigation though... Just reckon I'll have to wait and see....

Have you spoken to your insurance company and explained what happened. You should of course follow it up. The fcukin cheek covering the number plates. I hate that sort of sh1t now....:mad::mad:

Finally got some news back from the police in Devon, they managed to catch the culprit. She was interviewed and confessed to it... Happy days... Now just to get her insurance information and get the car fixed....

just one point - I believe in my policy I'm only covered third party while abroad even though I have fully comp. You may want to check this out next time you renew if you go to the UK a lot.
