Indoor Aerial

I've just moved to a house in cork city for college, but for some reason the aerial doesn't work. I tried an ordinary ''rabbit ears'' aerial, but can only get tg4

So I was wondering is there any indoor amplified aerial that would give me a decent picture on the 4 Irish channels? I assume as I'm in Cork the chances are quiet good? Something in argos (and something cheap!) would be ideal as I could buy it straight away!

Also is there any way I could pick up the saorview trials on my tv? Or would that mean buying a set top box at more expense?

    Thanks very much! :)

You mean the house aerial doesn't work?
I would try to find out why.
If "rabbit ears" gets nothing,I wouldn't waste money on any other indoor aerial.

Argos is worst place to get an aerial.

You'd really be better making your own TV aerial than using the indoors junk from argos. It's suprisingly easy and you're sorted if you make a bigger one and can hide it in a cupboard or attic etc. Google's your friend there.

If you're only picking up analogue TG4, then the placement of the aerial is probably what's wrong. (Albeit you're probably not going to have any of them perfect) Do you know what direction Spur Hill is in? It's on google maps anyway. And Collins Barracks has its own relay if you live in the city centre close by the Lee.

Cheapest way to watch the Irish DTT stuff is to use a USB DVB-T dongle. If your reception can't be improved, get one with an aerial socket so that you can easily plug in a better than the little stick that come with them. Dealextreme and ebay can be useful for this. The software end of things is not perfect but do a search here and you can see different ways people managed to get MPEG-4 video from RTÉ working.
