Student Cards - What accepts them?

    Hi,

Does anyone know what shops (clothes, shoes, make-up etc) accept student cards?

I went into Easons for books and they don't accept them and a few people have said places like A-Wear, River Island etc only accept 3rd level student cards, my card is a 2nd level card (from Pearse College.

Also, how much is the discount for each store?

    Thank you!

I've only ever seen cinemas accept second level student cards.

Its generally in and around 10%. Also you might have to have the one from the USIT place, I don't know if you can use a school card. Awear, new look, cinemas do it. Not many places really

What about the student travelcard? You can get that when you're in second level according to their site but I don't know if everywhere accepts them.

Certainly Boots and Topshop do but I'm not sure about elsewhere.

Any shop I've worked in, and any place I've shopped (except cinemas) have only accepted 3rd level students cards.

    Thanks for the answers guys.

I got my card from Pearse College, so thought maybe it'd be accepted everywhere the third level card is.

HMV used to, still waiting on them to get the deal back in again
    Topshop, (even on sale items)
Miss Selfridge (again on sale items)
Waterstones (they do a buy a few books get one free for students)
    O' Briens
    Office,
    Bagel factory
    Dublin zoo!

Most of the places are about 10% Better than nothing! :)

If you get a student travel card you can get student discounts on bus, rail and luas tickets. But I don't have one and I still get student tickets! Just mind you don't get caught (and fined!)

Dublin bus do Ticket Thursdays where if you present your student card to certain places you can get like 10-15% off stuff.

New Look have a 20% student discount running at the mo! I love it :D
    Topshop
    Tower Records
The new milkshake place on Liffey St.
Every cinema I've ever been in.

I've an Institute card and it's accepted everywhere. I think it's accepted once it's student id with a photo.

I think you should be ok as the card says Pearse College, but do look into the Student Travel Card. It's the only one Boots accepts.

In my shop we're told time and time again to look closely at cards and not to accept 2nd level, including the Institute, and to check expiry dates.

Like others said, get yourself a student travelcard. It's the only one Irish rail accepts in case you use the train. It only costs 12 euro.

    Discounts page: http://studenttravelcard.ie/?base_name=b_discount

Just ask every shop if they do a student discount or not. A lot of shops give you one if you ask but may not necessarily advertise them.

River Island don't do student discount. And other than that, as others have said, do look into a student travel card 'cause they're generally accepted more places than a regular student card.

Think I'll get this too, just to let you know, Dorothy Perkins currently have a 20% discount for student card holders

This may have changed since I was in school/uni, but it used to be the case the student travel card which is widely accpeted is only available to full time 3rd level students. The travel card I got for trains in secondary school was a different one, issued by Irish Rail themselves.
