Heart sounds

I've just being messing with my new stethoscope and have being pestering people to lift their tops and let me listen to their chests... the majority have a clear lub-dub sound ie s1 and s2.

However when listening to one (fit healthy) person I can only hear one sound. I understand there are different positioning requirements etc but no metter where I listen and using the bell and diaphragm I can only hear one sound!

Is it just a case of the sounds being so close I cannot differentiate them? Or should there be a clear lub dub audible in everyone?

    Thanks
