My Story Idea

Sorry if this is in the wrong place to discuss. If anyone wants to move it please go ahead.

Ok this is about a story I am either going to write or get somebody else to write, a crossover between five separate series. The respective franchises are Animorphs, Harry Potter, The Terminator, Transformers, and ReBoot maybe. For those who do not know what these series are, I will explain down below.

Animorphs — Five kids walk home through an abandoned construction site and see an alien space fighter land. An alien centaur, an Andalite prince named Elfangor, tells the kids that their planet is being invaded by a race of parasitic slugs called Yeerks, who crawl into a host's brain through the ear canal and take over their bodies. To help them resist the Yeerks, Elfangor gives them the power to morph into any animal they are able to touch and acquire. Then they witness the Yeerk leader Visser Three murder the Andalite prince. It's five kids alone against the Yeerks, who have conquered a multitude of species, until Andalite reinforcements can arrive in a year or more... The main themes are horror, war, dehumanization, innocence, morality, sanity, leadership, and growing up.

Harry Potter — Harry Potter lives with his hateful aunt and uncle ever since the death of his parents and has known only neglect and abuse by their hands. However, that all changes on his eleventh birthday, when Harry begins receiving letters that keep coming even after his Uncle Vernon takes them away. Moving as desperately far away as possible, the truth finally comes out when a giant man called Hagrid bursts through the front door with a shocking revelation: Harry is a wizard! A wizard, moreover, who has been invited to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Now, with the help of his newfound friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, Harry must overcome his own fears and doubts and face trials of hardship and loyalty and learn his own special destiny — to confront the wizard who murdered his parents, and who Harry might be the only one able to stop! The primary themes are death, love, prejudice, normality, oppression, overcoming impossible odds, and abuse of power.

The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day (The "Cameron" Terminators) — In a bleak future, mankind has been pushed to the edge of extinction by death machines that rose up against their human masters in a "new order of intelligence." For decades their battle against humanity has raged, but mankind was ultimately victorious. In its final death throes, Skynet, the central computer that controlled the machines, sent one of its Terminators back in time to assassinate the leader of the human resistance, General John Connor, before he was born. In doing so, Skynet has inadvertently created the very future that spawned them both. Now, John Connor must accept his own destiny and prepare for the future that awaits him before it's too late... Some of the themes include Pandora's Box, hope, fighting fate, destiny, nuclear apocalypse, consequence, and putting blind faith in the machine.

Transformers (live action movies) — For thousands of years, the Autobot-Decepticon war has waged throughout the cosmos, led by the last surviving member of the Dynasty of Primes, Optimus Prime, against the former Lord High Protector of Cybertron, Megatron, who has amassed an army at The Fallen's command. The ultimate goal of both sides is to take possession of the All Spark, the mystical relic that created their planet, for whoever controls the All Spark controls the fate of the universe. Finding the All Spark to be located on a planet called Earth, the Autobots must work together with the humans to find the All Spark first before the Decepticons do, and along the way learn the most hidden secrets of their race...

ReBootA computer generated show about the lifeforms that live in the city of Mainframe, a computer system hooked up to the Internet. Guardians and viruses fight for dominance, harmless computer games turn into deadly struggles for survival, and other forms of meaningless Internet jargon to us take life in strange and unimaginable ways.

Just imagine it! A post-apocalyptic world with wizards and witches fighting against machines, humans who can turn into animals, giant robots to help in the war against Skynet, all the while Skynet slowly takes over the Net... that would be pretty freakin' epic.

My exact idea is the Animorphs, during one of their missions, find out the Yeerks are moving against the wizards and witches of Britain (which is the most corrupt magical government and thus the easiest to conquer) while also planning to take over Skynet, some of which contains technology superior to the Yeerks. The Animorphs split up: Jake, Cassie, and Marco go to England to warn the wizards and witches and enlist their aid, and Rachel, Tobias, and Ax (an Andalite) stay in America to try and use Skynet against the Yeerks. Ultimately, it all backfires as Skynet launches its bombs against humanity once it has repelled the Yeerks, as humans tried to shut it down out of fear it would do something exactly like that. Skynet eventually seizes control of the All Spark and gains new technologies and at some point the Autobots and Decepticons arrive.

    Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

The potential licencing issues doom any such venture from the outset.

And that's just the legal problem. :)

Lol I'm talking about doing this in fanfiction. As in, no potential legal backlash. :P

Hey. So anyone else want to comment?

Okay. I think you need to ask yourself some questions.

Why do you want to crossover these particular series? What is achieved by so doing that couldn't be done in a simpler way? If you want to write the logical conclusion of "Wow, wouldn't it be cool if Harry Potter coexisted with sentient robots?", go right ahead. In my experience, people mostly write fanfic because they have some interesting ideas they want to explore, and find it easier to use established canons and characters as starting points.

On first glance, this doesn't look like a good idea. The core philosophies of the series are so very different it seems almost impossible to be true to them all.

    For example:

Harry Potter - love and friendship, partnered with a willingness to learn and change, can defeat any obstacle and any darkness.

Terminator - some things are inevitable and cannot be changed. Sometimes you can only save what you can as everything falls apart. Sometimes even doomed attempts are worth making.

To combine those you need either a much darker Harry Potter (and yes, I know the later books were dark, but they were dark in contrast to the earlier ones, not objectively) or a much lighter Terminator. You're putting the different series under too much tension by crossing them, and I don't think it would do either one justice.

Hmm.... Without borrowing from any of those shows... that particular story has already been written, and in computer game form. Without the animorphs.

    Google 'The Nameless Mod'

Install an old copy of Deus Ex

    Install TNM

Enjoy the most epic multi-threaded storyline you've ever experienced.

Besides, you'll never get all those to work together. There are just too many inconsistencies present and too many coincidences required before you even have a basic beginning to the story.
How could the Terminators ever be designed in the way they were if there was an alien threat changing the programmer's priorities (animorph x transformers)? Why design such 'primitive' robotic weapons when the decepticon corpses are available to study? Surely the Autobots could crush the Terminator progenitors? Have the Transformers run into the Yeerk before? How would this shape their pre-Earth history? I can see ReBoot fitting well as a battleground between Skynet and the Transformers but how can one distrobuted AI possibly hope to crack the defenses of several AI's that were at a more advanced state millions of years before Skynet's conception? AI's that learn as they go, no doubt at this point able to look at Skynet's capabilities like a human considers the memory span of a goldfish? How does Harry Potter come into this? How does the magical world remain hidden? How do magical powers compare to technological advancements? Are the animorphs full wizards or do they have any relation?

Too much to consider before you can even think of bringing them all together in the one place and time.
