2 things, firstly how do I try to get funding from the athletic association or whatever it is called for it and secondly where do I get the fliers stamped before I put them up?

You'll have to get in touch with DUCAC - http://www.ducac.tcdlife.ie/index.php?nodeId=2

You can get flyers printed up in Reads I guess, although they are expensive enough.

What club are you trying to get going?? :)

Yeah the getting printed is ok, thought I had to get them stamped or some **** so they wouldn't be taken down.
Club I'm thinking of starting is Rugby League, already have the flier sorted in my head. It's basically gonna be "Not skinny enough for the wing, not lanky enough for the line-out and not fat enough for the scrum? Try Rugby League!". I also realise that characterising the whole game of Rugby Union like that may be a little off-putting to some.:pac:

Might be a bit late setting one up for this year. I dunno. You need to speak to Drinda in the DUCAC office.

Start touch rugby please. I love the running by people, just not the broken ribs etc.

I can't see him getting discouraged from setting up the Rugby League one anyway tbh, and I also can't see him being bothered to set up two. :pac:

You can start one yourself though, next year even if it's too late this time around. :)

Is tag rugby the same as touch rugby? You'd defo get people up for doing that. :)

Touch you just touch them and they put down the ball. Tag they have bits of cloth on their wastes that you have to rip off. Both are awesome though!

Ohhh that'd be cool. Is it a lot of hastle to set up/run one?

I think there's already a touch/tag rugby club around in the college.
It's really funny to me that touch rugby was originally a Rugby League invention for practicing so people wouldn't die and stuff. :pac: Rugby League is so different to Union it's not even funny. Each team is only allowed the ball for 5 tackles, and when someone gets tackled they get up and roll the ball back so there's no orgy every 5 seconds. It's also "hard"er than Union, because it's much faster and every tackle matters, also shouldering is allowed, for example:

6 is particularly good and 4 is just hilarious.
In league it's all offloads. Getting someone to the ground is enough in Union but not in League. Ask almostnever about how brilliant the collisions are, people get knocked out with no impact on their heads. :D

I've noticed enough Aussie accents around for them not to all be from outside NSW or QL, so they'll be Rugby rather than AFL and it's all League over there. I may be too late for this year but I would like to gauge interest and have the craic to build up enough for a team and to build to a tour. The RFL in England are keen for any Irish team to tour England so hopefully that'll be enough to get people to go along with it.
This video shows how great a sport it is :pac:: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXkxSwPcJec

Good luck getting that past a DUCAC committee that quite likes Rugby Union and wouldn't take to kindly to that.

While I admire the enthusiasm of setting up a new sports club for a sport you're passionate about, I really don't see League getting off the ground seriously in Trinity. Anyone who wants a collision sport have Union, which is well established, and now American Football. League and Union don't exactly see eye to eye when it comes to the positives and negatives of the opposing code, and I can tell you that DUFC wont be losing many players to a league club if one was set up. Good luck though!

How often is training for the clubs normally?

I have a feeling that DUCAC only has room for a certain number of clubs, so if you want to start a new affiliated one then you have to wait for a space. Can anyone verify this?

Twice a week on the field, and then depending on your level/commitment twice in the gym as well. Freshers/U21 teams are WED/FRI nights. Check out the stands during freshers week for info if your interested in playing any sport in Trinity! Don't be put off if there's a couple of jocks/meatheads on the Rugby stand though, there are more casual teams as well! :D

Regarding a limit to the amount of sports clubs, I think that could be true actually! DUCAC are very hard to get funding out of. You pretty much need to run the club for a year to prove it's viable before getting anything from them. I could be wrong though.
