Yeah it would be a great idea for people nervous of flying but I think the fuel costs would be enormous :(

This is especially important for a large car ferry potentially travelling at up to 300 miles an hour. :P

It would cost loike over 9000 euro.

I think it'd be great. Grab a movie or two, dinner, grab a bit of a dance and sleep til morning in NY.
    Sounds wonderful imo. :)

Yeah, but more fun in one of these than a ferry

Top speed of 350mp and travels 20m above the sea.

Umm, why? Are you going to build it if enough people say yeah?

A light breeze with a few waves is enough to keep the Dublin-Holyhead HSS docked.

It'd need a mighty fine day for a transatlantic crossing...

    But if possible...yes.

The HSS class gets up to 75km/h and that's with decades old technology. So they could conceivably do it in 24 hours. Considering how relatively little r&d has been put into large, high speed ocean craft it's not beyond the realms of possibility that that threshold could double over the next 50-100 years.
    He's not suggesting it's possible today. :P

It would never be able to do anywhere near that speed on the Atlantic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,501 ✭✭✭BrokenArrows

    ya i would.
Id actually rather it took longer.
12-14 hours its almost unnecessary to have a room. If it was a 24 hour trip you would get a good nights rest.

Psh. There's a glorious future of advanced science stuff only a few years away. Have you never watched television?

If modern technology continues to advance, then this could be possible in a decade or two, perhaps using pump jet technology in place of propellors

Something that flew about 3 metres over the surface would be possibly viable but would be very vulnerable to storms, of which there are many on the atlantic.

I wouldn't, I've seen what they do in your car on those transatlantic voyages.

Think it was Nelson, but could have been Ms. Fellatio Hornblower. I'm always getting my tapes mixed up.
