Get Modern Warfare 2 or wait till Black OPS?

I'm on two minds to get it. Basically I'm fairly good at FPS games on a pc... with a mouse. I was just wondering would it be a good idea to try get it 40 euro and learn it now.
But since black ops is set in the Cold War era would MW2 still be played a lot when it gets released?

Oh just want to add I've never played a game like this apart from Battlefield 1942 on the pc. Team FPS games are generally new to me but I would like to get into them. My pc sucks so PS3 is the only option.

I've got a few friends who play it so I won't be on my own for learning it but I do like the whole fact that is; modern.

Yeah go for it pal, its a good laugh. I was pretty much a PC only guy until about a year ago when i sold my PC.

only took me like a couple of months to get good on the PS3 at mw2, tho i was fairly decent at FPS games in general on the PC.

I would suggest joining a clan or something, i don't think i'd be having half as much fun if i didn't join my clan as most of my real life m8's don't play online games.

Well playing online is gonna suck when you start out, if you're not used to it. You're gonna die alot, so don't get disheartened. If you get Modern Warfare 2, stick with it and you'll be doing well in no time.

The thing about Black Ops is, it has a "Practice" mode if you like, against bots... so you can get used to the game, learn the maps, and hone your skills, all while having the computer set at a difficulty you're happy with.

It's just over 7 weeks until release, so the real question is... do you have the time to play MW2 to make it worthwhile getting, and if the answer is yes, I suggest getting it. It's a good game, and it'll keep you entertained at least up to the 9th November ;)

I would say in november a lot of people will leave MW2 but people will still play it. COD4 and WAW still have thousands who play it and its no problem getting a game.

    What?

I think he means like how w@w + cod4 were, cod4 still had alot more players after w@w was released.

Dont think it'll be the same with blackop's tho as its set more or less in the same time period as mw2 (Well... guns are very similar etc).

Get it, you'll get it cheap these days and you'll get 2 solid months play off it and possibly beyond, which is more then most games.

    What?

Well uh... don't get me wrong (never played any COD game in my life) but wasn't MW2 kind of... modern, as in the setting and whatnot?
Now that you mention that , I saw a new perk was some kind of spy camera or something in the BO game.

Just so I'm clear on things, the fact it's set in the Cold War doesn't make the technology "retro" (so to speak) in multiplayer?

And yeah, to everyone else, thanks for the advice I am on two flippin minds though. It does look pretty fun but ugh... it's at least 40 euro and I'm thinking BO is gonna be about 50-60 euro and it is just a month away.

get cod4 then dude, apparently its still very popular and its not a whole lot different than mw2. Will help you get used to playing fps's on the console and im sure you could get it for like a tenner.

I can see your point. But I really like the perks of MW2.

See when I heard BO was set in the Cold War era I thought the whole game was going to be set in that ear.
Just so I'm clear with the game: the story is set then but in multiplayer you'll still have the whole shebang of airstrikes, remote control car bombs (or something like that). But the single player campaign is Cold War?

Everything thats in the multiplayer will be in the single player as well, same as the other COD games, in MW2 you get to use Predator missiles, UAV drones, AC-130's (theres a whole level based on it in COD4) and call in airstrikes. The RC car will be in both single and multiplayer modes in BO from what I've read.

If you want to play the single campaigns then get COD4 on zavvi.com its usually 15-20 quid delivered, MW2 is still pretty expensive for a year old game (good old Activision  )but they're both worth playing, great storylines.

Ooh! So the story is set in the past but the gameplay stuff like the cameras and things won't be affected?

Basically since MW 2 is set in the present and BO is in the past, I thought that in BO we'd be using cold war era technology.

    i'd get cod4 personally. it's a better game than mw2 by far.

on a kinda-related note, my friend broke his mw2 disc last night and has decided to get a new one instead of just waiting for blackops. if i broke mine, i'd just wait 'til blackops so i guess it's just down to whether you'd like to be around a modern setting or if you'd like to vietnam it up.

Well its set in the cold war but a lot of that tech was around back then, instead of UAV drones there'll be a Blackbird spy plane, the rc car is a bit makey uppy but rc cars did exist back then, airstrikes were around since WW2, the thermal camera is stretching things as far as 60's tech is concerned but aside from that its mostly legit, guns wont be as modern but hey, MW2 has a shotgun from the 1800's in it

I thought there was a UAV for 3 kills, and then a blackbird for 7/8?

Oh yeah you're right, the uav is a radar type thing whereas the Blackbird is a real time reading of the map so you can see exact movement, or something?

Yea UAV is same as in Mw2 iirc. Sweeps every 3 seconds I think for 30 seconds. Blackbird is real time (as with minimap for your own teamates), don't know how long for, I'd presume 30seconds?
