    Hi ,

I'm looking to upgrade the boiler controls ..

I've looked through the posts but am still a little confused .

the €500 grant is for upgrading the boiler controls , this I understand .

But how much generally does it cost to install the new controls ? a lot more then €500 or roughly €500 ?

if it's exactly €500 to install the new controls , do I still get the €500 grant , so it basically costs me nothing , or does the bill have to be a certain amount above €500 ?

    do I need a BER assessor ?

we have a firebird Super Q 50/90 boiler with a manual lever to switch between hot water OR hot water + heating .. boiler's about 12 years old , not sure of the efficiency ..

    thanks for any help .

I wouldn't necessarily worry about the age of the boiler if its in good condition. It sounds like the pipework should be easy enough to update. As far as the cost, the best thing is to get a couple of quotes because you will find differences in price for controls, trvs etc depending on their quality or whether their wired or wireless. As regards the BER assessment I'm not sure but unless your insulation is up to scratch any benefit from updating the system would be near worthless. Getting the property properly insulated will benefit you more so the BER will point you in the right direction.
