The CW in ratings freefall...what can be done?(why should we care?)

    Desperate times at CW HQ, Dawn Ostroff hides behind her desk chain smoking reading the latest overnight figures, she scans the demo breakdowns and realises she shoulda stayed on at Lifetime.

    If you're a ratings junkie like i am it's very clear all the returning shows have had woeful ratings the past two weeks, consider...The CW had NO competition, yet two weeks of major slippage.

    Last years wunderkid The Vampire Diaries has for the first time slipped under 3 million, the target W18-34 way down, Life Unexpected, Gossip Girl, 90210 have all seen ratings slumps.

    The only upside are newbies Hellcats and Nikita, while down a bit this week overall the numbers are quite good. NBC kicks off it's schedule next week and the following week all networks return.

    So what happens from here?...more declines?, seems likely, what can The CW do to stop the rats jumping ship?

    'Supernatural' aside, the question isn't "what can we done?" but more "why should we care?"

    It's a downright awful station.. and I couldn't care less about it!

    Bar 'Supernatural' obviously.

    Tis weird...'cause Supernatural is the only scripted show on The CW i don't/won't watch.

    ^ did you watch ep. 2?....anyways, this thread was designed for people to not only vent on The CW, but also to see some constructive opinions besides The CW sucks.

    Apart from Supernatural there is nothing I want to watch so don't care. I tried to give the Vampire Diaries a go because my GF was a big fan of the books but it was just awful.

    I was thinking of giving Nikita a go, is it worth watching?

    Nikita is not a typical CW show, it seems more suited to Fox, give it a shot and see, when you've nothing better to do.

    Top Model is all I watch from The CW now.

    It really isn't. Other people seem to be commending it, but I've watched the first two episodes and just couldn't get into it. In theory it should work because its very similar to Dark Angel/Dollhouse/Alias, but I just found myself not caring about any of the characters...

    Supernatural is the only good show the CW has and they inherited that from The WB, so I don't even look at it as a CW show...

    The network features a lineup of shows that, according to its President of Entertainment Dawn Ostroff, "appeal to young females 18 to 34-years-old"
    That target group is not a recipe for quality programming .

    Have to agree. I have a few friends who really like gossip girl but that's all they like and it's a limited audience.

    Most networks try to have a mix, e.g. a comedy night, a drama night etc, and overall this approach appeals to a much broader audience.

    Is this not a US TV station? Why should anyone in Ireland give a damn what ratings it gets.

    I thought Boards was meant to be Ireland-centric not have six million different threads about American TV shows that haven't/might never be shown here...

    :rolleyes: is this a serious post?...we'd have bugger all to talk about if we talked about RTE, by your logic UK, cable and satelitte is also out.

    They make shows. Some people like and watch those shows. If they're not there, they don't make the shows. People who like those shows then cannot watch those shows.
    Would've thought it was obvious.
