pretty good is the sat photo from 06? the place seems kinda burnt up
    over our place

The Sat Photos are from "Google Earth".
I think they need no cloud cover to take a pass, so with irish weather and all that, a lot is old or not even done in high resolution yet.

I was lucky enough with my fenced land, it's "just" inside a high res band, or what I presume is high res. Next plot over from the neighbours is blurry central. Unfortunately most of my Dad's land and most of my commonage is blurred also.

Yeah, I was messing about with paint programmes using screen captures off Google Earth but was never satisfied. This is much better for anyone looking to put up new fences or try a different management system :)

Another handy website that does the same thing:
    http://www.surveying.org/
Its a little more user friendly I think.

For those not in the GE images (they were taken in 2005) this might be of some use:
    http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/
If you click on the historic 25" map it has field boundaries and areas marked out and in many cases they won't have changed much. Even if they haven't, the satellite images from 1995, 2000 and 2005 are interesting to look at :)
