iPhone 3gs Unlock and Jailbreak

    Hi everyone,

    I'm looking for some help. I don't have a great aptitude for apple/technology so I'm just chancing my arm for some online help. I currently have an iPhone 3gs with firmware 3.1.2 that is locked. I'm interested in upgrading to IOS4.0.1 cause IOS4.1 apparently can't be jailbroken and unlocked. With this I have a few questions about the steps I must take to achieve my meteor enabled phone.

    Firstly, I'd like to know how to update my iphone using itunes (The required version i'm unsure of so any info here would be great too) to IOS4.0.1. I have the file for the IOS4.0.1 but don't know how to update to it actually using iTunes.

    Then I'd like to jailbreak and unlock the phone hopefully so I don't have to keep doing it everytime I turn off the phone.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below is the link where I got the file for IOS4.0.1.

    If you don't have the shsh's for 4.01 then you cannot update to it as apple don't sign it anymore. The only way you can have the shsh file is that you were jail broken before and cydia has your file or else you used umbrella software to get the shsh file.
