How are people finding their iPads?

how are people finding their iPads? Still using them just as much (or more) compared to when you got it, or was it a passing fad? I was going to get mine in Oz in Nov, but with the euro dropping again against the AUD, it works out as essentially the same price to get it here now and then I'll also get the irish plugs.

    Cheers,

Love it but can't believe it's taken this long for decent tablet computers. Also will sell this as soon as something better in the same form factor shows up.

It kicked my iBook into touch so quickly that I ended up selling it some weeks back. Between my iMac and iPad there's little room for anything else. According to a story on TUAW the iPad is "...cannibalising laptop..." sales in the States.

Wonderful, never leaves my hands. It's my computer, iPod, phone, TV, radio, library, communicator, photo repository to bore people with, SMS expeditor, private cinema (cont'd p94)....

Fantastic, Only reason to boot up the laptop now is to type projects or print the odd email.

The only thing i am a little annoyed about is the sheer lack of magazines/newspapers apps out there.

All newspapers should have a proper ipad app. NY times seems to be the only one and it is still fairly limited.

Maxim, readers digest and Time seem to be the only magazines out there that one can subscribe to.
Im waiting for FHM and Nat Geo to come. Shocked they havnt arrived yet.

Usually with my eyes. But sometimes I have it left on the bed beside me so I have a feel around until I find it.

Download the Zinio app, it has 100's of magazines you can subscribe to

Download the Zinio app, it has 100's of magazines you can subscribe to

If you go to this site you can get a free year long subscription to the magazine of your choice. They have a pretty good range of popular magazines from Elle to Popular Science, you'll definitely find something to suit you if you browse. If you use different email addresses for each subscription you can get as many mags as you like. It sends them all to your zinio account if you make one. Reading them on the ipad is as good if not even better than getting the real thing in my view because its just so much handier than lugging around a magazine with you. The Zinio viewer takes a little while to load but once it does it is excellent. It's free too on the US app store.

EDIT: I cant find Popular Science there anymore. A real shame. I signed up months ago and get my digital copy in my zinio account every month.

Oh and OP I LOVE my ipad. Cant imagine getting tired of it at all. I can't wait until it has multi-tasking which is due in the November update which we will all get free.
I love all the usual things like surfing , reading emails, listening to music and watching films about it but there's also so much more to it. I love reading on mine.I thought that I would never be able to give up having a book in my hands but the ibook reader on the ipad has every bit as much charm as the real thing and often I genuinely forget I'm not reading a real book. I've also downloaded a sketching app for it and love using that too.So that's two daily tasks I really enjoy that I can do on it that I've never been interested in doing on a PC and that saves me lugging things around with me.
I haven't tried them myself but there are new apps available and coming on stream that are expected to be an iPad equivalent of a program like MS Word and Excel. Those along with the ability to print which will also come with the next update will make the ipad perfect! I think the functionality of these devices will only increase too. I say definitely get it! :)

You could also use "Find my iPhone" or "GPS tracker" should your eyes be weary.

Granted, I only got mine a month ago, but I am finding that I am using it more rather than less as I discover more apps.

I only have mine a week. I do like it and use it a lot. However, my one gripe is that having got used to the beautiful screen on the iphone 4, the lower resolution ipad screen felt outdated from day 1.

Have mine nearly 2 months now and it's being used a lot. I've probably used the home PC about 5 times in those 2 months, as the iPad does the job for me!

Having lots of fun getting free Apps, I reckon I've spent about €5 on it so far, everything else has been free...

    I love it..

.. but unfortunately, after using SlideIt / Swype on my HTC.. I'm in dire need of something similar on my iPad. Typing never annoyed me on the iPad until I used them.

They're absolutely amazing.. you could increase productivity and speed of writing 10-fold by using them!

Shapewriter is the best you'll get.. but you could only type into a notepad type interface. You can have SlideIt / Swype actually replaces your default keyboard on any Android device, but Apple will never allow this so it's a no-go I'd say!

Swype is awesome, by far the best keyboard on Android. I can actually type at near proper keyboard speeds and it makes forum posting, using gtalk or writing texts a very swift and simple affair. Despite my iPad having a big keyboard on the big screen its 4 or 5 times slower to type on than my phone is, purely due to the awesomeness of Swype.

Yeah, the developer is apparently working on a version for the iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad.

But Apple will never let anything replace their default keyboard.. so it's a real shame that if it's approved, it'll be relegated to simply taking notes etc!

Forgive my ignorance, but what makes you say that?

They've big stipulations in their app guidelines about "altering user experience".. it's the exact reason the excellent Google Voice Search was rejected by them. This would be the reason quoted for rejecting a Swype app..

And also if I honestly don't know how possibly it would be to replace the stock keyboard.

My iPad has been getting loads of use. But iOS 4 can't get here fast enough. Also, I wish I could use it for college, but even with the keyboard add-on, it's just not up to the task. GoodReader is great, but Apple need to add some kind of filesystem for downloading and organising files.

The built in keyboard is pretty good (and this is coming from someone who can touch type) but they'd be fools to ignore such leaps forward in usability. Maybe they'll integrate their own implementation in future updates.

    Or maybe they'll be fools!
