Life of laptop....

Well considering the specs of the laptops you have there (second link doesn't work) I take it you'll only be using it for basic everyday use? Word processing, internet etc?

If so then the first one will last you a solid 3 years. The last one 2-3. However If your willing to upgrade the RAM on the Toshiba it could last at least 5 years IMO with that i3 in it.

I base this on how long the laptop will running at 80-90% speed. i.e Taking in consideration new programs that come out that you may use. They could slow your computer considerably but it will still usable....but at a slower rate. If you get what I mean.

As for a recommendation I cant say until I know what you need it for specifically.

Yeah exactly, just college work etc.I'm thinking about starting up some DJing/music editing as well but I'm not sure.I'll be upgrading it next summer if I do upgrade it,would that extend it's life or would I need to upgrade it as soon as I receive it?

No you wouldn't have to do it straight away. Basically upgrade the RAM when you feel the laptop is getting a little slow for your liking. And as I said it should increase its 'life' by about 2 years.

If you need to do some DJ/music editing later then the Toshiba will suit you better as it has a better processor than the Sony.

However looking at it again......that Toshiba has one more good/bad point.

It says it comes with 64bit windows which will use a lot of that 2GB RAM. Still it may leave enough for your needs. Just dont expect to do any HEAVY music editing until its upgraded.

The good point is with that graphics card you should be able to do some light-medium gaming! Again though RAM upgrade MAY be necessary.

    Thats my 2 cents. :D
