O2 are currently offering "broadband" for students, researchers and college staff at €9.99 per month (with modem costing €19.99 once-off), however there is a 10GB limit on it, then its 2c per MB over that. Spped "up to 7.2mbps".

Also, the contract is for 12 months, and after 12 months normal O2 monthly rates will apply to your account.

So, is 10GB p/m enough for most internet browsing?

No wonder they are officially half the speed of the other Midband networks ( apart from Clearwire)

on the midband speedtest thread o2 have came out worst over all even three are well ahead of them now they are crippling the network with all these cheap offers and tbh they havnt built a good enough 3G service to handle all the new customers

the problem with o2 is they have the oldest network and so have the oldest equipment servers etc etc so things are not as up to date as with three or vodafone or meteor and due to things like the i-mode mistake and the millions pumped into it they have been unable to properly update their systems for some time,

they then made quite a mess of the iphone launch and then went a step too far for most by doing away with thousands of loyal customers upgrades9and the customers) with the stroke of an accountants pen then there was another fiasco for the iphone upgrades and release of the 3g and 3gs.

i can see o2 becoming like the esb, having a large network but selling it off to the likes of tesco and other mvno's while retaining a small share of the market for themselves.

Meteor have the same offer for students except you can get the dongle for free

might be a better call if you live in a city (dont think they really have broadband coverage outside the cities), less people use it so might be better plus i think it network to 21mbs before christmas

So you guys wouldn't reccomend the O2 dongle? I was gonna go with this as I live in a city and it has full coverage but if it's really slow I wouldn't bother. The 10GB limit is fine for me. Just worried about speed.

no-one can say what your speed will be.

it's either zero, (no connect, or disconnect) or between 0.05Mbps and 6Mbps.
