De Niro, Pacino to star in Scorsese's 'The Irishman'?

Joe Pesci also attached to the project. How fantastic if true. De Niro and Pacino's career have both gone drastically downhill over the past decade - Scorsese is still on top of his game so this is likely to be the first classic either has starred in in a long time. And it is amazing that Pacino and Scorsese have never worked together. It's a shame they left it this long and didnt work together in the 70's or 80's. Oh well at least it looks like they will finally collaborate now. A gangster crime thriller with De Niro, Pacino, Pesci directed by Scorsese is bound to be brilliant. And after the awful Righteous Kill both Bob and Al need to rectify things and get back to a film in the league of 'Heat'.:)

    This should be pretty interesting.

I disagree that Scorsese is at the top of his game, but he's definitely on form. I totally agree that De Niro and Pacino have been pretty lacklustre for years though.

I'm actually more excited about seeing Pesci.

Im playing it safe and assuming right from the start that this is going to be terrible. That way I leave room to be pleasantly surprised.

Which i wont be, because it'll be terrible.

And what makes ya think it will be terrible? You haven't got a clue what it is gonna be like till you see it, so give up acting like you're clued in and a force to be reckoned with.

The Expendables for the Mob genre?

    Yes, please! :D

Only rumour for this to involve Pacino and Pesci but DeNiro and Scorsesse have been pushing to have it made for years.

Am I the only one who absolutely HATED Heat? I thought it was just awful. Talk about an OTT ending, just crapp. I mean compare it to the likes of Goodfellas or the Godfather or even Casino,it just does not stand up well against these classics. If its anything like Heat I for one wont waste my hard-earned on it.

I hope Scorcese remembers to plaster the sets with sauce because it's just going to be wall-to-wall chewing of scenery.

    Yes, yes you are.
Heat is one of the best thrillers of all time.
I can only assume you are trolling.

Heat isn't a gangster film so comparing it to gangster films doesn't really make any sense. I wouldn't even consider it a thriller. It's a crime drama. But it's obviously not to everyone's taste. There's a reason it went mostly ignored on release.

Scorsese was a big fan of Heat actually. He considered it one of the best films of the 90s.

So just cos he hates Heat he's trolling? Well guess what, I hate Heat too. One of the most overrated pieces of pap of the 90's.

People have opinions, that doesn't mean they're trolling. There is no film that everyone is obliged to like. Please don't resort to insults to get your point across.

    That's hardly an 'insult'.
I do like comment on my observations though, that's what makes boards interesting for me.
Heat is widely regarded by the majority as a brilliant piece of film making.
I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in the opinions of anybody who regards it as pap, or rubbish etc.
    Thats just MY opinion though...:)

Well I don't put a whole lot of stock in the opinions of people who have to use "in the view of the majority" to back up their preferences. In fact I find them some of the dullest and least insightful people around.

I hope you found this comment on your observation interesting. If not then rest assured I won't lose too much sleep over it either way.

Lol. Yes, you would have been far more impressed had I used the word 'pap' somewhere in a post.
    Oh look! I just did!!

Back on topic, de niro has apparently put in a return to form performance in his new one, 'stone'.
That gives me little more hope for this one, which will hopefully make up for the terrible righteous kill.

Don't presume to know what would impress me. You would be the least authority on the subject based on your uninsightful comments thusfar.

This is a trainwreck of a thread to be honest.
If anyone actually wants to discuss the film please feel free to start a new thread.
Leave the school playground nonsense behind.
