I got my first mac this year, and i LOVE IT!

I just wish i got the pro, the metal case would last a LOT longer than the policarbonate case on my macbook at the moment!

I'm thinking about upgrading my mac as i'm starting to get a few gigs, and as it's the main part of my set up, i want it nice and reliable!

    it's a a1342 model, with 2gb ram 2.26ghz and a 250gb HD

I'd like to use 3rd party products to upgrade.
i'd like to have at least 4gb ram, and at least a 500gb hard drive.

where's the best place to buy such products?

RAM - Crucial have never let me down and always have a good price.
HD - Make sure it is Mac compatible as some won't work with the drop protection feature in the Apple laptops.

I've got a Seagate Momentus 500 Gb 7200rpm drive and love it. I think it should fit the new macbooks alright.

You could go for one of the hybrid drives either with the 4Gb flash memory

Komplett are another good place for RAM and HD upgrades.

OP, before you upgrade your hard drive, invest in an external drive first off to ensure all your data etc is safe first. Using Time Machine, backing up is a doddle to save and to restore everything where it is once you have your hard drive fitted in and gives you added piece of mind.
