Hi guys, quick question and I hope you can help.

Basically I've found a wholesaler site in China that will ship a particular phone type to me for 150 euro, 300 euro cheaper than Irish prices. I've checked the site and they accept paypal so the security isn't an issue.

What I'm wondering though is what manner of charges I can expect to incur upon receipt of the device in Ireland?

Or can I mark it as a gift and avoid that?

    Many thanks!

    Hello Fannymcslap

all sorts of issues to consider.

    1) There have been various threads that would council against buying cheap electronic items in China. Suggest you do your research, google the supplier, check out if there are any negiative comments about the item or the supplier. I would be very, very carefull

    2) The customs tarif number is 8517 12 00 90. The rate of duty is 0%

    3) VAT will be charged @ 21% over the cost of the product plus postage

    4) Depending on which courier is used you may have to pay upto € 15.00 handling fee. If An Post is used, it will be € 6.50

    5) I would not recommend to mark it as a gift. Any gift valued over € 45.00 is taxable in any event. If customs suspect the declared value is incorrect they will ask for Paypal receipts.

Hope this helps and that it works out for you

    Best regards,
