I was away all summer in the states and I am currently in my second year in college. Didn't get a grant the first year as both parents were employed, however my father has since been laid off, wondering what my options are.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

All vec's advertise that the deadline for applications are due by the 31st of august of that year.

however, nearly all of them accept late applications.

I was told by my local vec that they take them up until may of the following year.

best to ring them and ask, however you should just fill out the form asap and send it in with all the relevant documents.

go to www.studentfinance.ie and apply - also if your father was laid off in 2010 mark this as a change in circumstances

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I'm in the same boat but different circumstances......

I only found out today off a girl in a similar situation that you had to apply for the tuition fees, and the BTEA wasn't going to cover it, i was expecting the money back from the BTEA, i had to loan the E1.5k

I read over the citizens info' piece on all this a good few months ago, and i'd nearly bet my house it said that since you couldn't get the grant and BTEA together that the ''BTEA would cover any fee's involved''
Also when trying to get the reg' letter for my BTEA from the student union office the women told me something like ''you need to pay the reg' to get the letter and then you'll get the reg' back again from them''....... am i going crazy or did it never say that the BTEA would cover the tuition fees?.... i don't think i'd have missed something like that

Hoping i can sort this tomorrow or i'm in trouble :(

When I was in college in England I got a grant from Ireland. I applied for it about 2 weeks before I was finished the college year. Even if they say it's too late, send in the app anyway.

the rules changed very recently - You might have read something 3 or 4 months ago but that might have changed - you need to apply on the grant forms at www.studentfinance.ie
