Having bought a macbook air, ipad, and had every iphone so far I decided to get an iMac as I want to try some iphone app developement.
I sold my air when I got the ipad as I wasnt using it as much.
Anyway to cut a long story short.
After searching for finance options (which are few and far between) I got my sister to order the iMac from the refurb store.
She has her own business so could claim the vat back.
    I went for a 21.5 core 2 duo , 4gb ram, 500gb HD etc.
It arrived yesterday, I was so excited as its my first desktop mac.
First off its a stunning looking machine and very neat.
When I booted it up I could hear a static noise coming from the right side speaker?
I tried running a hardware test, nothing found.
Anyway rang apple and after trying a few things it was decided that it was faulty and needed to be returned.
The other thing was because it was a refurb they could not replace it but could only issue a refund.
So now i have to wait for the money to go back on the card before I can order another one.
To make things worse there are 2 other refurbs (same spec and price) on the site this morning so they could have easily swapped.
I have been buying apple products for the past 7 years or so and have never had to return anything apart from this month when I had to send my iphone 4 back (dead pixels on screen) and now the iMac.
That said, the service that apple provided for the iPhone return was second to none and I had a new phone sent to me in less than 3 days.
Just wanted to share this with people.
    Ah feel better now..:)

They never replace refurbs. Never did, and I can't see them ever doing it. If you bought a Mac Mini, for example, you could be waiting months before another comes up.

ah i'm just being kranky coz I was so looking forward to getting it.
So what do you all reckon, should I chance another refurb or just go for a new one.
I suppose the speaker issue could have happened on a new one.
Just curious about peoples views on the refurbs.
    Cheers.

It's part of the risk you take in getting a refurb. That's why they are discounted. Most of the time people report very positive experiences with them. I'd say order another.
