    Hi,
It's not really important but I'm trying to get answers for a lot of little things....

After a big run/sprint in football etc and you're knackered and getting your breath back is it best to put your hands on your head, stay upright?
A lot of people bend over and put their hands on their knees. Someone said this isn't the best as your lungs are then bent over....

    Cheers,
    Pa.

standing with hands on head is known as vertical aliginment and will allow lung function up to and including 100% of its capabilities ,
the downside is the oxygen used to keep your hands in this position will use up to 1% of lung capacity.
breathing with hands on knees or horizontal alignment will hinder your 100% lung function by 1% but will not use up oxygen to stay in this position

    so to summarise,
i have not got a clue but wouldnt say there's much in it

Mr Sungod, could you advise on whether it is in fact more efficient to collapse and lie face up gasping for air, such as a landed fish does?

One learns such a lot on Boards

i was told that if you stand up hands on your head your diaphragm will function better then if your bent over, but i've tried the mackerel method before and it works well after a race :)

Stand with your left leg bent at the knee, with your right hand on your hip, left hand on your head and bark like a sea-lion.

if your upright hands on head you will take in more oxygen but, a lot of it is how deep you breathe. the better the breath the quicker the recovery!
The bent over position is handier but its not a good habbit to get in to after a hard session.. unless your in the bedroom with a foxy lady!!;)

If you can still stand at the end then you didn't give 110% to get there.

I use this age old technique myself. Works everytime. I find if I make wheezing/dying sounds it helps all the better. :)

Difficult to perform at the side of the road...tends to attract do-gooders and stray dogs!

I once did it in the middle of the road after a 5k. Attracted a few comments but I was in no condition to react.

I think the best method to get your breath back is to put your left leg in, then bring it out, then put it in and out another two times, before shaking it all about... :D
