Airbag fault, VW Passat

    Hey folks.

Jumped into the car the other night, and a little icon with the airbag was lit up in the dash board, also the words ' Airbag fault' were displayed for a few seconds.

the car was fine beforehand, no one tampered with airbags etc, its a 2.0ltr passat tdI (06)

Please tell me its nothing serious folks, as I need a repair bill like a hole in the head atm!

Any chance I should fix this myself, or is this a laptop, in the mechanics repair job?

    Thanks

First things first get it scanned and see where the fault lies,it could be a simple loose wire or a more complicated issue, where in the country are you?

You probably damaged or just popped out the electrical connector under the seat. Have a look around and see if anything is loose WITH THE IGNITION OFF. You may need to have the airbag light reset by a VAG diagnostic anyway.

Well i'm just outside Newbridge,i would be willing to scan it for you if you are willing to travel the short distance.I'm not a mechanic mind you but rather a VAG enthusiast with a copy of VCDS and a VCDS lead :) at least it would arm you with the knowledge of what the exact problem is.

I installed a ipod connection on a passat like yours and got the same fault. Its only a simple thing imo. Tossy should sort it for you no bother..:)

    O.P.

Has the car been driven by someone other than you in recent days? If no, have you carried a front seat passenger who may have re-adjusted the seat?

I had this issue with an A4 and it turned out that the pre- tensioner wiring under the passenger seat had become slightly loose when my passenger adjusted it.

With luck it'll be as simple as that.

You need to plug in to a VAG-COM to sort it. Where you based I have one.

Exact same thing happened my Golf after driving over a rough road
