What Android?

Hey all,

Right, I have a Desire myself but the other half has just had her upgrade authorised (Meteor billpay) and wants a "smartphone"

Having called a few stores, it seems the Legend is end of life but she'd really like a "proper" phone at this stage (has always had Nokia XPressmusic types till now) so I'm not sure what to suggest now.

She likes my Desire (though prefers the smaller sized Legend - but could live with it), but I know the problems of sourcing a Desire at the minute.

I'd be prepared to give her mine and upgrade (I dont mind the larger phones), but upgrade to what?

Is the Samsung Galaxy any good? Any firm release date on the Desire HD?
I'm very fond of my Desire so if I change it I'd want something at least as good, and preferably with the community support it has (mine is rooted and regularly updated with LeeDroid's ROMs)

It'll be going on their top line package (the €85 one with free calls/texts and 5GB internet) so any advice/suggestions much appreciated!

I've read on boards that meteor will be selling the new Desire range from october, The galaxy s is good (have a lot of time to play with it) but i prefer HTC

Sounds to me that you have turned your girlfriends upgrade into your upgrade. Nothing wrong with the legend and there a desires appearing occasionally. Or she could wait a month to get a new desire z...

Ah but she wants it NOW and while she prefers the smaller Legend, she'd "put up with" the Desire if she had to. Reason I'm saying I could give her mine and upgrade is because I don't mind the bigger phones.. oh and it's technically my 2nd account she's on anyway

What about the Wildfire? Seems to be a bit more equivalent to the Legend?

Legend is similar to Wildfire in specs (I believe) but has superior screen and touch interface. Choose the Legend.

I have the Desire and other half has the Legend. She loves it and finds it perfect as she also finds my Desire is too big to hold. If the Legend is getting Froyo then I would definitely recommend it.
She has tried my Desire and although its faster and better specs she finds the Legend just as good. Coming from a Samsung Tocco (which was a heap of junk really bad interface and build quality) she is delighted with the Android HTC experience. She finds it easy to use and navigate and the perfect size. She used to leave her Tocco at home all the time 'by mistake' but has yet to leave the Legend at home in 5 months. Just shows how much she likes it.
I also find the Legend really good. Although I find the screen a little to small maybe thats because I am used to the Desire screen. The whole package is great with the clear screen, great user interface and best of all is the uni-body. You can drop that thing from 10 feet and it will smile up at you and say 'give me more'. Thats great for someone that has the odd 'accident'.
I presume you will get the Legend for free if you have an upgrade but I would say go for it.:)

Try the CarPhoneWareHouse.... I saw some in the local store last week

Decided to go for the Desire (again!) in the end. Got the last one in the shop (CPW Blanchardstown) although he did say there was a big shipment of them due in on Wednesday if anyone is looking for one...

I'm guessing this is one of the newer versions with the SLCD screen then? (EDIT: Yes having checked the other thread it appears so)
Can I root this as I did my own or is there more to it (seem to remember reading there were differences there too)

Anything else I should know about the differences between them?
