So Iv been applying for proper jobs now and have sent around cvs to 3 companies which i would really like to work for, where I have a contact.

This is the jist of what Iv gotten back each time.

"Thank you for sending me your CV. It is certainly very interesting and I have
circulated it to managers in various areas of the business. Unfortunately, we do not currently have any graduate level jobs available but we will certainly keep your details and contact you should this situation change."

So yes, I have been cold-calling but is this just a polite Please Feck Off or do they actually mean it?

The first time i got it back I was quite positive, but now im getting the feeling its just a generic response.

After nearly two years of applications to companies I have received a lot of these responses. IMO they are generic responses sent by the majority of companies, however, their are some who actually do keep your CV on file should anything come up. I was surprised by two companies who sent me a similar response to yours who got back to me after 4-5 months about a job. My advice is to keep positive and ensure that these companies know you interest in working for them because you never know, they may call you for an interview when there is an opening.

Sounds like a polite pfo, but don.t give up you have only applied for 3.

And some companies will keep your cv and get back to you when you least expect it.

If you are sending cv's with no jobs advertised you can always follow up with phone call to make sure they got it, be prepared for phone interview.
