A friend of mine is living in bruff Co. Limerick,he has sky but would like to have the rte channels in other rooms in hes house,at present he is using rabbit ears on some tvs and he is getting rte1,rte 2, tv3 and tg4 the reception is only ok,my understanding is he would need a band b aerial for hes location pointing towards woodcock hill,co. clare,i rang urlan tv in limerick today and they say that he would need to be point towards cork and that he would need 2 aerials a band A and a vhf, ?if that was teh case how is he getting at 4 stations on rabbit ears?

Any users in around the bruff aera that would be able to shed some light on their set up?also be able to recommend a decent aerial?
there will be rte in up to 7 rooms so i thing a slx 8 way amp should do the job

Usually in Bruff you get your signal from Cork alright, but depending on where you are located you mite be able to get woodcock but you would need to be on the Limerick side to stand any chance if I'm personally honest with you.

If the signal is from cork then you will need a VHF and UHF Aerial(Red Tip) and a combiner or masthead and power supply depending on signal arriving at house.

how is he getting the 4 stations off the rabbit ears though,or would the rabbit ears be doing both uhf and vhf?he is living on the outside of the town just off the main road to klilmallock, did i read there was a transmitter now in mitchelstown?

Rabbit ears will get VHF & UHF. Check if TV shows channel nos. in use.
VHF usually nos. 5-11 (some TVs vary). UHF 21-68.

What are the channel numbers for the 4 channels he is receiving at the moment?

    Analogue TV Channel Numbers
    Woodcock Hill (uhf) 39 42 49 45
    Mullaghanish (uhf) 27 31 (vhf) 5 8

    Mitchelstown doesn't have TV3.

ill have to check with him tomorrow,
these are the 2 aerials i was thinking should do the job

    http://www.tvtrade.ie/red-group-a-uhf-aerial.html

    http://www.tvtrade.ie/7-element-vhf-aerial.html

    would they be ok?
also what way are the 2 cables from the aerials combined?as they will then be going into to an amp to send the signal to 7 rooms

Some rabbit ears have both UHF AND VHF....

    VHF usually long extend-able rods

    UHF Usually a circular shape

    I include a pic

In order to combine them you will need to know the signal levels arriving at the house..

If strong enough you can use an inside or an outside UHF/VHF Combiner unit. This will bring the signal down the one cable and you would put this into your distribution amplifier to send them signal to the rooms required.

If the signal is not strong enough then you will need whats called a masthead and power supply to power it.

A good one is made by Televes model no 5351 this will again combine the two aerials to travel down one cable but must be inserted into a power supply to power it before placing it in a distribution amp.
