Cars are boring

    Afternoon,

I'm after making the switch to a car since my motorbike got robbed and have being driving to work for the past two weeks.

Is there any way to make driving more exciting? I was on bikes for 2 years and was going to make the switch to a car anyway as I didn't fancy a winter like last years on two wheels.

But the traffic and general mundaneness of being stuck in the cage is getting to me. What do you do to make a drive 'enjoyable'?

What do you expect? It's a commute, you don't get to choose where, when, or at what speed you drive.;)

Buy a car thats fun to drive. If you drive a boring car it will be a boring experience. If you drive something sporty or luxury then that experience is greatly enhanced.

I shudder to think some of the suggestions you are going to get with a question like "Is there any way to make driving more exciting?"...

Well I'm gone in the opposite direction to you. I have a car and now I'm gone to using a bike most days. I just couldn't take the painful evenings after work sitting in traffic. I'm still keeping the car for shi**y morning and for frost and snow but other than that it's the inline 4 all the way. Even with 200+ BHP commuting is a pain

Actually I've changed my mind in favour of car sharing with the likes of Gillian Taylforth!

Nothing can make driving a car enjoyable especially in this country. Not with our roads and speed limits. Its a routine chore at best.
The fact that we dont live in southern California means it has to be endured however.
Get another bike if you can and the promise of good weather and open roads:rolleyes: will make the commute in the cage more bearable. Never enjoyable though.

I'm on the gluaisrothar at the moment but I must say, I get a big kick out of biking but I'll always get a bigger buzz out of having a nice car.

OP, don't listen to that biker.ie bull- embrace cars, there's lots of pleasure to be had from them. Just don't buy some bottom of the range box

Turn the heating on and watch all the bikers filtering through traffic in the p1ssing rain while feeling all warm and cosy listening to music.

Have you considered alternative two wheeled transport, i.e. bike sans motor? It's engaging, probably as fast or faster and certainly much more entertaining!

My gear doesn't let any coldness or water in, and my iPhone streams music to the bluetooth headset in my helmet.

And I don't spend two hours each day sitting in traffic. :)

OP, what make/model of car are you using for your commute at the moment?

Your gear must be special then, on a motorbike theres no such thing as waterproof, just water resistant :)

Only Vehicle I know of where you get home and your hands smell like feet.

    cop on Keith
even in the worst rain, I've always been warm and dry.
Anxious, yes, but not cold or wet.

Maybe you should get out of the '60s and buy some gear from the 21st century :p

I had pretty good Gear, Tried out Synthetic and Leathers.

Goretex wears out and Leathers need constant maintenence. Very easy to get a tiny nick somewhere as well.

Usually somewhere annoying as well, i.e. Groin area or in the underarm.

Also its difficult to get a decent comfortable Neoprene neck cover.

You haven't an issue with smelly gloves ? You do realise your hands sweat right ... only solution I found was a steam clear then drying out and reconditioning the leather asap.

I'll get a bike, but i'll only drive it during the 3 months of the year when we have nice weather.

My hands don't sweat... Well maybe they would if I wore winter gloves in summer, but that's why summer gloves were invented.

As for gear, I had a pair of €50 Spada pants that lever let in water, and a €150 Richa jacket that was equally good.

But you can drive a car in a pair of €1 boxers from Dunnes if you want :D

Wow lots of replies cheers. I'm in a boring C3 but I don't see how a faster car would make any difference as I can't filter and twisty roads aren't as fun in the car. I do enjoy singing away to music I must admit.

I'm just gonna pick up a cheap bike again
