Anyone know the easiest way to get there with public transport, all i can find on buseireann is 3 changes and a 3.45 hour journey, seems a bit much when its something you could do in an hour in the car.

How about bus to Waterford and then the train to Athy

JJKavanagh has a scheduled run from Tramore to Castledermot if it's any good. It's on the Waterford - Dublin route, if you go here you can find out more information, I don't think they have one to Athy though. Your best option might be to get the bus to Waterford City and then get the train to Athy, the stations are just over the bridge from each other.
